The man was not wearing a helmet and was walking on a paved area near a fence when the stray animal entered his path, according to his brother, Andrew.
“The dog was just walking on the grass, and then when he hit me the dog just jumped up and started barking and ran away,” Mr Andrew said.
“He ran off in a hurry, so I called the police, but they couldn’t come because he was just so close.”
Mr Andrew said the man’s wife is worried for her safety, and wants the family privacy at this difficult time.
“It’s very emotional for me, it’s very hard to deal with,” he said.
The family is asking for the media not to photograph them or any of the animals involved.
